Reception

Consoles

Metal Gear Solid: HD Drove received very positive reviews. GameRankings gave the PlayStation iii version a xc.31% based on 32 reviews,[30] while the Xbox 360 version got a 90.13% based on 15 reviews.[31] Metacritic gave the PS3 version a metascore of 89,[32] while the Xbox 360 version got a metascore of 90.[33]

Game Informer gave Hard disk drive Collection a nine saying, "While this drove doesn't give you the complete movie, information technology highlights many of the reasons this series has such a devoted following."[34] [35] IGN gave it a 9.0 saying, "If having to brand a choice feels like picking a favorite kid, then the Metal Gear Solid Hard disk Collection is a cowardly -- and crawly -- style out."[36] [37] GamePro gave it a 4.5/5 saying, "if you loved these three gruff, gravel-voiced games on their original releases, or missed them the offset time effectually, they're certainly worth adding (or re-calculation, or, if you're like me, re-re-adding) to your library."[38]

PlayStation Vita

The PlayStation Vita version also received positive reviews. GameRankings gave information technology a 82.25% based on x reviews,[39] while Metacritic gave it a metascore of 83 based on 22 reviews.[twoscore]

IGN gave it a nine saying, "It's OK to be disappointed that Peace Walker didn't arrive into the Metal Gear Solid HD Drove on Vita, simply it would exist incorrect to punish the game for Konami's motility. The Metal Gear Sold Hd Drove is packed with content, and it's a joy to play. Whether you're returning to Snake's adventures or experiencing them for the first time, these 2 games feel at domicile on the Vita, look great and volition keep you busy for quite some time."[41] GameSpot gave it a eight.5 saying, "All told, this drove is worth every penny, and these iconic games will satiate the cravings of game-starved Vita owners in demand of quality software."[42]

Game Informer gave it a vii.75 saying, "If you already own the title on PS3 and want to transfer your saves between devices to play Metal Gear on the go (and possibly earn some extra trophies), then peradventure this trimmed-downwardly version is worth considering. If you're non that kind of Metallic Gear fan, then you don't need to waste another thought on this release."[43] EGM gave it a 7.0 saying, "Konami definitely has a checkered history with Hard disk releases over the past year, and MGS: Hard disk Collection continues that tendency. It'south non an consummate disaster like Silent Loma: Hard disk drive Collection, but while it certainly succeeds from a technical standpoint, 1 tin't help just focus on what missing—instead of what's actually in that location."[44]

Differences to original versions

All games

  • Digital instruction manuals for all three games are bachelor on the disc. The manual for Metal Gear Solid 3 also covers Metal Gear and Metallic Gear 2, and includes the tap code chart for the latter.
  • Various lines of radio/Codec dialogue were re-recorded to use slightly different terminology for the joystick controls of the consoles' gamepads (due east.g. "left stick" rather than "left analog stick"). Despite the DualShock 3 controller possessing identically named analog sticks to that of the DualShock 2, this re-recorded dialogue was included regardless. Only relevant lines were re-recorded, resulting in a noticeable change in audio while listening to the associated character's whole dialogue during a conversation.
  • For the PS3 and PS Vita versions, the X button now maps the ENTER control like inMetallic Gear Solid 4, equally opposed to the O button in the previous games of the series.
  • Changing the aspect ratio to 16:ix results in some screens of the game being vertically cropped to fit into the new proportions.
  • Presumably as a upshot of the lower analog sensitivity, maneuvering along walls in the PS Vita version in both directions is sometimes impossible. This is notable inMetal Gear Solid 2, where the restricted camera perspective means there's no method of remedying the trouble.

Metal Gear Solid 2

  • The words on the bike-locked doors in the Big Crush now read "Metal Gear 2 Guns of Patriots."
  • The post-credits logo now includes the "A HIDEO KOJIMA GAME" tag.
  • The skateboarding minigame in Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance was not included.
  • The PS Vita version omits the ability to zoom in on faces during Codec conversations inMetal Gear Solid ii. The loss of the L3 and R3 buttons as well means it'southward impossible to read the female hostages' measurements in the B1 Hall of the Shell ane Core with the directional microphone.
  • The button mashing sequence atop Arsenal Gear at the finish ofMetal Gear Solid ii is notably shorter and easier than its original version, especially on the higher difficulty settings. Since the health of the thespian for the subsequent fight confronting Solidus Ophidian is carried over on the Extreme difficulties, said battle is significantly easier every bit a result.
  • Grenades take longer to explode, and at that place is a break before Codec conversations play.
  • During the cutscene preceding the boxing with Fortune, the bounding main lice effectually her feet appear on random playthroughs (PS3 version only).
  • During the cutscene where Raiden and Pliskin discuss Dead Cell, George Sears' first proper name is misspelled as "Gorge."

Metal Gear Solid 3

  • Selecting "I like MGS3!" when starting a new game in Metal Gear Solid 3 unlocks the following: the Light-green and Brown facepaint and the AUSCAM, Desert Tiger, DPM and Flecktarn camo. Selecting this also unlocks the Extreme and European Extreme difficulties.
  • The words "Metal Gear Solid Ophidian Eater" are now legible on Naked Serpent's helmet during the opening cutscene of Metal Gear Solid 3.
  • The intro is out of sync due to the removal of the ambience racket that normally plays when "Konami Entertertainment Presents" is onscreen.
  • Sure visual effects are reduced to the betoken where they are seemingly missing such every bit depth of field and rain.
  • Guy Savage (Naked Snake's vampire-themed nightmare) in Metal Gear Solid 3 was omitted.
  • The Secret Theater and Ophidian vs. Monkey are not included. Furthermore, due to the omission of the latter, the player cannot unlock the Assistant camo or the Monkey Mask. The Monkey Mask itself, still, can all the same exist found in the game files.
  • Metal Gear Online is non included in the game. All the same, the Japanese version had data files for an incomplete level that is implied by the file names to be a variant of Brownish Town.[45]
  • In one of the rooms on the 2nd floor of the Graniny Gorki Lab in Metal Gear Solid 3, a mag can be found on a desk advertizement the Hard disk drive remake of Metallic Gear Solid 3 in Dutch. The magazine hints that Metallic Gear Solid 3 might be ported to the Wii and PC; however, this is merely speculation due to the content on the cover. Additionally, in the due east basement, there are several more magazines in a diversity of languages that feature images from Metal Gear Solid 3, Peace Walker, and Metallic Gear Solid 4.

Peace Walker

  • VOCALOID has been removed from Metal Gear ZEKE.
  • Non-controller related dialogue was re-recorded by David Hayter. These affect the scenes where Serpent tells Chico to treasure his memories and when Snake is trying to warn the Pentagon about false nuclear information. The word bubbles and togglable subtitles do non reflect these changes.
